Rider Input Survey

First Source of Data

To confirm our suspicions about the CCTC needing improvement, we needed rider input.

Three Main Focus Areas

We focused on 3 main areas of questioning, and offered a few open ended threads.

Posted at Bus Stops Across Campus

The poster pictured on the left was posted at bus stops all over campus to get passenger input.

Many passengers indicated overall satisfaction while riding.

When asked to rate their experience on MBus from 1 - 5 (1 representing "Not Good" and 5 representing "Very Good") an overwhelming majority indicated satisfaction while using the system. This shows that current passengers are dedicated to riding transit, and will most likely continue to do so in the coming years. It's time for the Central Campus Transit Center to catch up to the rest of University of Michigan's transportation system, and support riders in their daily commutes.

The majority of surveyed riders support a ban on private vehicles at the CCTC.

When we surveyed a group of 90 students about their opinion on a ban on private vehicles at the CCTC, the overwhelming majority was either in strong support (44%) or moderate support (18.9%) of said restrictions. Only 11% of respondants were strongly against the ban. It is very obvious to passengers and pedestrians that private vehicles are the cause of so many headaches regarding congestion and bus service decreases. Is it obvious to the university?

Out of the surveyed passengers,
32% indicated dissatisfaction with the CCTC crosswalks.

When asked to rate how they feel while using the crosswalks at the CCTC, over 32% of students indicated they were unhappy with their experience navigating traffic and other pedestrians. With so many vehicles passing by in both directions of travel, it can be difficult to negotiate while passing through on foot. While 41% of respondants indicated a "Good" experience while using the crosswalks, we believe the almost 50% of other responses indicates a problem worth solving.

"I would like to consider adding signposts signaling where each line will pull in, similar to the Blake transit center. It may also be beneficial to restructure the message board and delivery to make the board more user friendly with more accurate, intuitive message display. It might also be useful to post a general frequency of service and time of first/last bus for each line."

Anonymous RiderSubmitted response on improvements to the CCTC

"More BIG busses to accommodate students, especially on north campus. More accurate bus route times. More busses at later hours … not every 30 min. Sometimes the bursley baits bus doesn’t even show up during the week at later hours, which is the most populated bus"

"I think it can get really congested for cars when many students are around. I think they have to drive more aggressively to take every opportunity they can not to hold up traffic, which may be more dangerous for students."

Anonymous RiderSubmitted response on pros/cons to the CCTC

"I like the closed off waiting areas, it was particularly helpful in the cold windy days; I dislike the lack of physical maps at the CCTC with each bus, route and stops, it would be particularly helpful to know other options alternatively to online maps on phones."

Anonymous RiderSubmitted response on pros/cons to the CCTC

"Extending the covered platform to the end of the eastbound bus lane would be good, people usually have to wait for Bursley-Baits without any cover."
